A recent story featured on NPR discussed the limited career options for postdoctoral fellows as they try to move into faculty positions. According to the article, only 15% of post-docs ultimately obtain tenure-track faculty positions. Many complete several low-paying fellowships before giving up and moving into other sectors such as biotechnology or pharmaceuticals.
